yesterday was the first Saturday in May which means it was the Kentucky Derby today . I not being able to legally drink or gamble I went to the Derby party I go to each year.
The day started fine I lost my first few bets but I was holding out for race 10 (THE DERBY). Turns out by the time race 10 rolled around I was down $13 and I couldn’t bear the thought of parting with any more of my money (I am a know cheap skate) so I declined from wasting my money on a derby bet.
I had no money on the Derby but I am a Kentuckian so I watched.
So the horses take off. Big Brown who started in post 20 came up and won with a time of 2:01.82. The Place horse was Eight Belles (the only filly in the race). and the Show horse was Denis of Cork.
After crossing the finish line Eight belles fell and broke both of her front legs. Eight Belles was euthanized on the track. I’ve heard of horses being put down on the track but I had never seen it. Eight belles crossed the finished lines so she was the official Place horse
This Horse was an amazing athlete and Placed in biggest event in her sport. Then seconds after finishing she fell and broke her front ankles and was euthanized. I take comfort in the fact that I believe Eight Belles died with honor. She accomplished an amazing thing before she died and I believe she was happy.
That death at the Derby was kinda a put damper on the day but excluding the death of Eight Belles the day was pretty good. I didn’t win any money in fact I lost 13 dollars (yay me). But the party i was at was fun and I had a good time. So even though the Derby had a tragic end the day day ended okay. So that was my Derby day not very interesting but it’s what I did and I had fun.
